Meet The 2010 World Latin Organisers!

USA DanceThe 2010 IDSF World DanceSport Championship Latin has been granted to the IDSF National Member Body in the United States, USA Dance. This body was formally constituted in 1965 under the name of United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association, also known nationwide as USABDA to promote the acceptance of ballroom dancing into the Olympics. In 2005 a corporate resolution was filed with the state of Virginia changing the name to USA Dance, Inc. At grass roots level in communities, colleges and secondary schools all over the country, USA Dance volunteers provide opportunities for the public to engage in affordable social ballroom dancing and DanceSport. At the elite level, USA Dance conducts national, regional and local DanceSport championships. The National DanceSport Championships are staged annually under the auspices of USA Dance which then helps to finance the athletes’ participation in the IDSF World DanceSport Championships.

For the 2010 World Latin in New York, USA Dance has chosen America’s premier DanceSport event organiser Sam Sodano as its co-host. Best known as the organiser of the Ohio Star Ball, Sam has been featured for well over 20 years on ‘America’s Ballroom Challenge,’ a television programme airing through the Public Broadcasting Service. Sodano is a former North American Champion in Latin and has received the United States Dance Championship Hall of Fame Award earlier this year.

We came across an interview with Sam Sodano on YouTube. Thanks Ballroom Fantasy! For everyone travelling to the Big Apple and whose mother tongue is not American English, it’s a perfect warm-up for getting a good grasp of the local lingo!
