International DanceSport Federation (IDSF)
Founded in 1957, the world governing body for DanceSport is currently made up of 88 national member bodies and three associate members. Its mission is to regulate, administer and develop DanceSport for the benefit of millions of athletes at every level and around the world. The International DanceSport Federation is recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
Just how universal DanceSport has become over recent years is best reflected by the fact that 88 National Member Bodies are currently affiliated to the International DanceSport Federation (IDSF).
The World Rock ‘n’ Roll Confederation, the International Dance Organsiation and the United Country Western Dance Council are Associate Members of IDSF. The International Professional DanceSport Council and the International Paralympic Committee Wheelchair DanceSport Committee have entered into formal cooperation agreements with IDSF. These organisations bring their own communities to an ever growing global sporting movement.
IDSF is currently in the process of redefining its mission with the aim of serving an even broader constituent base. Under the programme VISION 2012, IDSF sets out to improve on its federalist structure, to make DanceSport a truly all-encompassing brand, and to assume a new identity. The World DanceSport Federation becomes the governing body for all forms of dance performed as sport.
